A fabulous example of old vine Shiraz, this offering displays a surreal combination of purity, elegance, and delineation with enormous concentration and intensity. Its black/purple color is accompanied by aromas of espresso roast intermingled with blackberries, creme de cassis, melted licorice, bacon fat, and a touch of subtle oak. This is a ripe, full-bodied effort. The 2003 had a slim edge over the 2002 in terms of elegance, but at this level of quality, to choose one over the other is splitting hairs. This is a well-endowed, super-concentrated Shiraz with more elegance and finesse than typical for these blockbusters from South Australia. It should evolve for 12-15+ years.
